The Unreported CSV in a Mechanical Period

As part of a Mechanical Period, you can download an Unreported CSV, which will flag any sales that Curve thinks should have a mechanical royalty, but for which none is created. It works differently from the Unreported CSV which you can find in a Standard Period in a few ways.

Sales lines with a Mechanical Liability

By default, the Unreported CSV only includes sales lines for which Curve determines that a mechanical liability exists. Curve determines mechanical liability by evaluating the Terms defined across all of your Mechanical Contracts.

Any sales type that appears in at least one Mechanical Contract Term is considered to carry a mechanical liability. For example, if all of your Mechanical Contracts only include Terms for U.S. download revenue and worldwide physical revenue, then only those sales types are treated as having a mechanical liability. All other sales types (such as streaming revenue or download revenue from other territories) are automatically treated as not having a mechanical liability.

In addition to this, only sales linked to a Track or Release with the "Report Mechanicals" option enabled could be seen as having a mechanical liability. Sales linked to a Track or Release where this option is disabled, are automatically seen as not having a mechanical liability.

Please note, as soon as a sales type is added to the Terms of any Mechanical Contract, Curve will treat that sales type as carrying a mechanical liability across your catalogue. For instance, if even one Mechanical Contract includes streaming revenue, all streaming revenue within the Mechanical Period will be treated as having a mechanical liability. Any streaming sales that are not matched to a Mechanical Contract may therefore appear in the Unreported CSV.

Which Sales Are Automatically Excluded from the Mechanical Unreported CSV

Essentially, sales on which there is no mechanical liability will always be excluded from a Mechanical Unreported CSV. So in summary, the below will be excluded:

  • Sales that do not match the term of any Mechanical Contract.
  • Sales for Tracks/Releases for which "Report Mechanicals" is disabled.

In addition, sales lines would also be excluded if

  • They relate to a Mechanical Contract which has an Accounting Period Type which differs to that of the Mechanical Period. Say when running a Half-Yearly period, sales for a Quarterly mechanical contract would not be flagged in this Period as unreported.
  • The sales line is reported to at least one Mechanical Contract. Even if there are multiple Mechanical Contracts linked against a Track, as soon as the line is reported to one Mechanical Contract it will be treated as reported and not be flagged in the Unreported CSV.

Reasons a Sales Line May Appear in the Mechanical Unreported CSV

If a sales line show up in this Mechanical Unreported CSV, it would be because a sales line with a mechanical liability failed to be reported into at least one Mechanical Contract because of one of the below reasons:

  • The Track has Report Mechanicals enabled but has no participating Mechanical Contract.
  • The participating Mechanical Contract is Inactive.
  • The sales line is assumed to carry a mechanical liability, but the applicable Mechanical Contract does not contain a matching term that covers this specific revenue type. For example, you may normally report mechanical royalties on download sales in the United States. However, if the relevant Mechanical Contract does not include a term that applies to U.S. download revenue, any such sale will not be matched to a contract and will instead be written to the Unreported CSV.
  • The calculation input is missing. For example, you report the mechanical royalty based on the PPD, but the Main Dealer Price on the Release is missing. Or you report the mechanical royalty based on the Stat Rate, where the Track has its mechanical setting set to Custom Rate, but the Custom Rate is blank.
  • If a Release does not have a Tracklist, then automatically its sales with a mechanical liability will show up in the Unreported CSV.
