How does Curve accurately map sales to Catalogue?

There are three Catalogue Types in Curve's recording side: Track, Release, and Contract. When a sales line is ingested, it is assigned a Catalogue Type based on the identifying information within the sales line: ISRC for Tracks, Catalogue Numbers and Barcodes for Releases, and Contract IDs for Contracts.

The standard methodology for Curve is to map sales lines to a Track or Release, which in turn is linked to a Contract to flow revenues through and create royalty statements.

Releases

Curve will try to match on Catalogue Number (Cat No.) first. If no match is found, it will then try to match on Barcode. If the Cat No. or Barcode on the sales line matches just one Release in the database, the connection will be made. If the Cat No. or Barcode on the sales line matches two Releases in the database, the sales line will be matched to the Release that also has a match in Channel. If there are two matching Releases, and neither of them has a default Channel that matches the Channel on the sales line, the sales line will be left unmatched and flagged in the Mapping Manager.

Tracks

In a similar manner, when a sale is assigned the Catalogue Type of 'Track' via a matching ISRC value, the sales line is processed by the Contracts that are linked on that Track's Rights tab. If an ISRC is present, but there is no Catalogue Number or Barcode value for the line, or those values do not match a Release in Curve, the Track sale is not assigned any Release information, unless a Default Release is assigned at the time of ingestion.

Contract

If the Contract Identifier value in the sales data exactly matches the name of your Contract, the line will be automatically allocated to the Contract. If the value isn't an exact match to a Contract name, the Mapping Manager will flag this value and prompt you to map it to a Contract. Any mapped Contract Identifiers will be stored on the Alias tab of your Contracts. When assigning revenue to a Contract, make sure to include a calculation that forces the Catalogue Type (Cat Type) to be "Contract".

When a sale is assigned the Catalogue Type of 'Contract' via a matching Contract Identifier, the sale is allocated at 100% participation to the contract with which the Contract ID is associated.

Note: When creating mappings for the first time via the Mapping Manager, what the user actually does is to simply add the corresponding identifier from the sales line as an Alias against the corresponding Catalogue item.

For example, when performing a Release mapping through the Mapping Manager, you are just adding the Catalogue Number (Cat No.) from the sale as an Alias to your Release in Curve. This is all Curve needs to know to remember this value and automatically make this mapping the next time this Cat No. is found in a sales file.

Links established during the mapping process are remembered by Curve. The next time you upload data containing the same identifier values, Curve will automatically map the data to the correct entry.
