(Automatically) Importing Acknowledgement Files ✪
When you have delivered a CWR file to your society, your society will return to you an Acknowledgement file. This Acknowledgement (or ACK) file will include feedback such as which Works have been Accepted and are thus successfully registered, or which Works have been Rejected and will need to be reviewed and redelivered. If a Work is Accepted, the ACK will also tell you the Society Identifier that this society has assigned to this Work.
To import your ACK files, you can either
- Do so manually by heading to the Acknowledgements page and hit the Create button at the top right of your screen to upload your ACK files
- Most societies will provide their ACK files with you via an FTP. Curve can Automatically read this FTP and upload your new ACK files on a daily basis.
Manually Upload your ACK file
To upload your ACK files, please go to Deliveries > Acknowledgements page and hit the +Create button on the top right of your screen. On this page, drop your Acknowledgement files. You can upload multiple files at once.
Curve will automatically match your ACK file to the correct Delivery Partner. It does so by comparing the Receiving Party of your Delivery Partner with the CISAC Society Code in the HDR row of the ACK file. Each society has their own 3-letter CISAC code. For example, the code for SACEM is 058, meaning this code can be found in the HDR row of all ACK files sent by SACEM.
Below is an example of how our SACEM Delivery Partner would be set up. As this Partner has the Receiving Party SACEM, Curve will know to map any ACK files with the society code 058 to this Partner.
For this reason, it's important that your Delivery Partners have the correct Receiving Party specified, and that you create just one Delivery Partner for each society that you work with. If you create multiple Delivery Partners for the same society, Curve will not know which Partner to map your ACK files to.
Once your ACK file has finished ingesting, you will be able to review its results. Each Work can have one of the below statuses
- Accepted - This means the Work has successfully been registered with the society
- Rejected - This means the Work did not meet the minimum requirements of the society. In this instance, you will need to review your Work and redeliver it again. Once you have adjusted your Works to resolve the issue flagged by the society, you can then either
- update the delivery status of these Works to "Force Delivery", so that these Works will be included in the next delivery to this society
- hit the "Redeliver Rejected" option within your Acknowledgement file on Curve, which will automatically create a new Delivery for all the Works which have a Rejected status within this ACK file.
- No Participation - This means the society does not have the rights to collect royalties for this Work on your behalf. For example, a Work sent to ASCAP which only has BMI writers in it will mean ASCAP has no participation in this Work.
The status of this Work will also be displayed on the Delivery tab of your Work, so you can at all times have a full overview of which societies your Work has been delivered to, and whether that registration was Successful or not. You can also view the Delivery Status of all Works for a specific Partner via the Delivery Status page.
If a Work was Accepted, Curve will also read the Society Identifier provided by this society, and store it against the Work. This is the code that will be used by this society to identify the Work in the income files they will be sending you. This means that once you start earning income for this Work, Curve will be able to automatically match this income to this Work. One important requirement for this is that the Template Source of this Work equals the name of the Receiving Party stored on the Delivery Partner. More information on this requirement can be found here.
Automatically Import your ACK file through FTP
Most societies will provide their ACK files to you via an FTP. You can direct Curve to automatically retrieve these straight from your society's FTP without any human interference.
In this case, Curve will scan, on a daily basis, for new files in this FTP folder and import these via our Bulk Upload tool. Any newly imported Acknowledgement files will appear on your Acknowledgements page and will be tagged as New.
To set up such an integration, please go to Settings > Integrations & FTP > Acknowledgement FTP Tab.
The below fields will need to be completed.
Name - Here you can name the FTP integration for your own reference.
Type - Here you select the type of FTP. Select the type that matches the FTP provided.
Host - The FTP's URL where your Acknowledgement files will be hosted. Typically this will begin with 'ftp.' and should not contain 'http://' or 'ftp://'.
Username - Your username with the FTP.
Password - Your password with the FTP.
Root Directory - In which folder on the FTP should Curve look for Acknowledgement files? Leave blank for server root.
Port - Here you will need to specify the port number
Once an integration is set up, Curve will scan the FTP for all existing files. Any new files that are added to the FTP from that point in time onwards will be imported to your Acknowledgement page. Curve scans for new files on a daily basis.
Please be aware that at the moment MusicMark adds their ACK files in the same folder that you send the CWR files to. This is causing Curve to ingest the original CWR files along with your ACK files. The CWR files will automatically error, and can be deleted by you. You can recognise these files as they will end with XXX_707 (with XXX being your Sending Party ID, and 707 being the MusicMark CISAC Society Code).
